• Hot Blanket Pack followed by dry wrapping
• Fomentations to joints 15 min every 2 hours with
  • protected wrung-dry Heating Compress in interval
  • if joint is hot then change compress frequently
• Smear joints with vaseline daily
• Derivative Massage
• Scotch Fan Douche

In Emaciation in Gout or Rheumatoid Arthritis

Local heat to joints

• Fomentations
• Local Hot Air Bath
• Superheated Air Bath
• local Electric Light Bath

followed by

• Tonic Friction to muscular parts only - avoid joints
• Wet Hand Rub to begin with then
• Cold Mitten Friction

while the swollen joints are wrapped in...

• Joint Compress well covered with counter-irritant or anodyne to increase effect later when recovery is under way...
• Alternate Douche (spray) to joints and body generally later still when convalescence well under way.
• Graduated Tonic Cold after short heat treatment

If patient complains of stiffness or increased pain after cold friction use - Alcohol Sponge in meantime but continue with Tonic treatment

If Insomnia due to joint pain
