from Hydrothermic Remedies...
A 60 Watt lamp 3-6 cm from skin. Includes infrared heating lamp.
As the heat from the lamp is absorbed by the superficial layer of the skin, the skin is heated and then heat is conducted into the deeper tissues just as on heat from hot water or from a fomentation is conducted. Penetration is comparable. The effect on tissues is similar to the other forms of applying hydrotherapeutic heat.
This method of heating has the advantage of being clean, of permitting observation of the part being treated, of elevating the part during treatment and of easy control of intensity. The heating lamp is easy to use in the home.
