Paralysis of the 7th cranial nerve

Many causes, the commonest: chilling of the side of the head leading to local oedema pinching the nerve where it passes through its narrow canal in the temporal bone.

Early treatment:

  • Infrared radiation 20min followed by
  • Galvanic Current for 5-10min daily
  • support face with strapping at night

After the first week: to maintain muscle health till nerve regeneration - may require several months

  • mild heat, gentle massage of muscles
  • interrupted Galvanic Current take care not to overstimulate
